Mako Boats
Mako is a performance-driven fishing boat brand built around anglers who demand confidence, capability, and reliability on the water. This project explored how Mako could strengthen its brand positioning and create a more focused identity around the pursuit of the fish, developing a strategic foundation that connected the brand, its products, and the mindset of the anglers who choose them.

The approach began with a comprehensive brand strategy focused on understanding Mako’s audience, competitive landscape, product offering, and place within the fishing market. From that foundation, the “Relentless Pursuit” concept was developed as a central expression of the brand—capturing the determination, preparation, and drive that define serious anglers. The strategy translated that idea into a cohesive creative direction designed to guide everything from visual communication and campaigns to product storytelling and customer experiences.
The result was a strategic brand foundation that gave Mako a clearer point of view and a more cohesive way to communicate its performance-driven identity. “Relentless Pursuit” provided a flexible creative platform that could extend across campaigns, products, photography, retail, and other customer touchpoints while reinforcing Mako’s connection to the serious angler.
Mako Discovery
Before developing the Mako brochure, I started with discovery. The goal was to understand where the brand had been, what had made it meaningful, and where there was an opportunity to take it next. This study became the groundwork for the visual strategy—examining Mako’s heritage, audience, competitors, and existing brand language to uncover a stronger position for the brand.
The Opportunity
Rather than simply refreshing what already existed, the challenge was to find a new angle rooted in what made Mako distinctive. Mako had the legacy, toughness, and credibility of a pioneering sportfishing brand; the opportunity was to translate those qualities into a more modern and aspirational story centered on adventure, experience, and the relentless pursuit that connects generations of anglers.
This exploration established the strategic foundation for the visual direction that followed and ultimately shaped the Mako brochure.
