Flint & Steel
The Flint and Steel Trail Race is an established running event that needed a refreshed identity for 2024. The challenge was to modernize the visuals while maintaining recognition with its loyal community. At its core, the project aimed to evolve the brand without losing the rugged, grassroots character that defines trail running.
Approach
Outcome
The identity builds on existing but underused vector assets, paired with updated typography and a refined color palette inspired by the fall season. A custom tortoise graphic was introduced to contrast the race’s hare motif, giving runners a choice in how they see themselves on the course. The goal was to create a bold, energetic system that balances modern design with an outdoors-driven, rugged feel.
The result is a refreshed race identity that feels both modern and familiar, carrying forward the recognizable orange tones while establishing a distinct look for 2024. The system extends across race materials and marketing, resonating with a wide range of participants and their families. It demonstrates how thoughtful evolution can preserve brand equity while keeping a visual identity fresh and relevant.
